He stabbed his initial victim 50 times, proceeded to sever their ears, dismembered the flesh, and thereafter ate it. He ate the soft tissue of another person he murdered. Ultimately, he took the life of a person whom he believed to be abusing his nephew, but in reality, was completely blameless.
The individual depicted in military uniform, smiling for the cameras, is 44-year-old Denis Gorin from the Sakhalin region, who in 2018 was sentenced to 22 years in prison. Despite having a prior murder conviction, this cannibal is among the 17 individuals who, as estimated by journalists, were let free by Russian President V. Putin’s decree on the condition that they participate in the conflict in Ukraine. Putin had earlier this year granted a pardon to Nikolai Ogolobyak, a killer who practised Satanism and cannibalism, following his completion of six months of military service in Ukraine. Despite the numerous heinous acts committed, the Putin administration seems resolute in its decision to offset the Russian army’s losses by deploying convicted felons to the battlefield. Kremlin spokesman D. Peskov told reporters that “Now everyone is studying the pardon lists very closely… But I repeat once again, we are talking about certain conditions that are related to being on the front line. There have been no revisions in this regard.”
Nevertheless, the Kremlin’s refusal to reconsider the examination of prisoner pardons indicates that Putin endorses death and violence in support of his fascist expansionist agenda, disregarding the religious and mythical narratives that have been crafted to overcome humanity’s fundamental fear of mortality. Putin, in contrast to Gilgamesh who undertook a grand quest to conquer death, and unlike Dede Korkut who tricked Azrael and obtained temporary immortality for himself and his community, normalises the act of murdering as long as it is executed under the guise of a “national obligation”. However, perhaps we are neglecting the primary inquiries that require attention. How did, in Russia, which is in the category of unfree countries with a total of 16 points, receiving 5 points out of 40 from political rights and 11 points out of 60 from civil liberties, Gorin, once a baby, become a cannibal murderer, and how did Putin, once a baby, become an aggressive dictator?
