Every year on March 14, Ukraine observes Ukrainian Volunteer Day—a special day, not just a holiday, but a tribute to people who voluntarily chose to defend their country.
This date was not chosen by chance: on March 14, 2014, the first volunteers left Maidan for the training base in Novi Petrivtsi, where they formed Ukraine’s first volunteer battalion to take part in combatting during the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO). The day was officially established in 2017 to honor the courage and dedication of Ukrainian volunteers who stood up to defend the country during difficult times.
Even today, volunteers remain an important force on the frontlines. Thanks to their courage, our country stays strong and withstands challenges. Across Ukraine, people mark this day by honoring volunteers, sharing stories of their bravery, and expressing gratitude for their service. Volunteer Day is not only a reminder of past deeds but also a sign of gratitude to those who continue to protect Ukraine today.
