The war drove us out of our homes, broke our lives, and took away our sense of the future. We lost not only our homes but also a part of ourselves.
Yes, in Germany we received support and assistance, but at the same time we feel humiliated. Personally, I have a constant feeling that we are perceived only as cheap labor. Especially when you are over forty-five, you understand: there is no hope for a good future here and no time for joy—only work. But there is nowhere to go back, because the life that Russia killed will no longer exist, and there is no end in sight to this war. I clearly realize: Russia wants to destroy not only our state but also our people and our identity.
Therefore, it is especially painful for me to hear when Ukrainians in Germany speak Russian, although it was Russian bombs and bullets that they were fleeing. For me, language is our identity. By abandoning it, we lose ourselves, our heritage, and thereby help the enemy.
It’s time to realize ourselves and be united—only this way will we survive.
